Tabacalera centers on the Monumento a la Revolución, its copper dome rising over Plaza de la República and the vendors who set up along its edges. Puente de Alvarado runs past the Museo Nacional de San Carlos, a neoclassical mansion built around an oval courtyard, and the restored Frontón México, once a jai alai arena, stands at the plaza's edge. Mercado San Cosme handles the daily shopping.
